峠の小屋でじさまと二人で暮らす豆太は、家の前に立つ大きなトチの木が夜になるとお化けのように見えて、夜中の便所にも一人で行けない。その木には、勇気のある子どもだけが見られる不思議な灯りがともる晩があるという。ある夜、じさまの身に思いがけないことが起こり、豆太は怖い夜道と向き合うことになる。
