新宿の七曲署で、捜査第一係に詰める刑事たちが事件を追う。係を率いる藤堂俊介はボスと呼ばれ、山さん、ゴリさん、殿下、長さん、シンコと、ほかの面々もめいめいあだ名で通っている。第1話では、マカロニの名をもらう早見淳がこの係に着任してくる。日本テレビで1972年から1986年まで続いた長寿の刑事ドラマだ。
