Synopsis (intro)

主婦メアリー・アリス・ヤングが、謎の自殺を遂げる。物語はそこから始まり、彼女はその後もナレーターとして語り続ける。残された友人は、離婚して娘と暮らす絵本作家のスーザン、元キャリアウーマンで幼児4人を育てるリネット、理想の家庭を必死に守ろうとするブリー、元トップモデルのガブリエルなど。舞台は架空の町フェアビューだ。
